October 2019: Typhoon Hagibis Cleanup
When Typhoon Hagibis dropped record rains on Tokyo in October 2019 and caused the Tama River to overflow its banks, many homes near the river were flooded. Church members quickly sprang into action. What began initially as a rescue effort to help one Church family turned into a project for an entire street of homes as over 30 Church members showed up with equipment and willing hands to give service. Starting the morning after the flood, and over the course of two days, volunteers mucked out several homes and provided much-needed assistance and encouragement to several families. These cleanup efforts were reported in the Church News.
